Breaking Down the New Hemp Bill and What it Means for You

 Ever since the New Federal Farm Bill was passed last year, there have been a lot of questions about what it will do and what it means for the average consumer. Here’s the quick run down of what this means and how it’s going to affect the sale of cannabis going forward. 

Changing How “Hemp” is Defined

The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp by defining it as cannabis containing no more than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight. 

This allowed for a massive market of hemp-derived cannabinoids, including Delta-8, Delta-10, and THC-A products, that were federally legal but intoxicating.

The New Farm Bill contains related language that aims to close that loophole.

Now Hemp will be evaluated based on total THC, not just Delta-9. This means that many products that used to be considered Hemp, will no longer have that classification, even if they are Hemp-derived.

Products That Will Be Affected and How it Affects the Consumer

The products that will be most impacted by this bill are products that mostly contain Delta-8, Delta-10, and  THC-A. If these products will no longer meet the federal definition of hemp and will be classified as controlled substances. 

This means that online businesses, gas stations, liquor stores, and other businesses that carried these products because they didn’t need a license to sell them, will no longer be able to. 

This means that if someone was getting their products solely from these types of places, they will need to move to purchasing their THC products from a licensed dispensary. 

Important Note: State licensed dispensaries and the products that they sell will remain almost completely unaffected by this law. 

Why is This Better For the Consumer

Because these products and these businesses fell into a legal gray area, most if not all of the products were not subjected to the standard regulations and testing that all cannabis products must undergo. 

This means that at best consumers could be getting an unsatisfactory product or at worst could be consuming something that is dangerous to them. Without the constant testing and inspections that occur at state licensed dispensaries and grow facilities consumers are never sure if they are getting what is advertised. 

When Do These Changes Take Effect?

There is no exact date that these changes will go into effect but estimates suggest that it could be as early as late 2026. This will allow for a transition period for everyone, businesses and consumers alike, to adapt to these new regulations. 

However things are still up in the air and this bill may be delayed for months or even years and politicians and industry leaders continue to work on it. 

 

Any change to cannabis in the legal landscape can oftentimes seem confusing but it’s important to stay up to date and informed about what is happening. Whether you’re someone who’s new to working out or are a seasoned pro, exercise can sometimes feel difficult or seem like a chore. If you’re looking for something that might enhance your workout and maybe make it a little more enjoyable, then cannabis might be a good option for you.

Here are a few ways that cannabis can help you improve your workout.

1. Improves Mind and Body Connection

THC and CBD in the right dose can help you to increase awareness in your body and make you feel more present during your workout. It’s great if you want to focus on your breathing, your form, or even the specific engagement of certain parts of your body or muscle groups.

Microdosing before doing things like yoga, pilates, or other kinds of slower stretching, can really help to ground you and bring you into focus with your body. It can also help dull some of the pain or soreness that you might feel when doing a new stretch or position.  

2. Makes Workouts Feel More Enjoyable

For some, cannabis heightens your senses, so it can help you enhance some of the more enjoyable parts of workout. It can make your music sound better and your movements feel smoother.

A lot of people report having some kind of gym anxiety. Whether it’s embarrassment over their skill level or a fear of being judged, that type of anxiety will keep people from starting or continuing their workout journey.

Using Cannabis can help to relieve that anxiousness a little and help people to be a little more confident when working out. When you’re relaxed you have a better experience and when you have a better experience, you’re more likely to come back. 

5. Supports Recovery & Muscle Relaxation

After a partially difficult workout or after trying something that you’ve never done before, it’s normal to feel sore. Cannabis can be a great tool to use in your recovery. Things like CBD or THC creams or salves are great for relaxing sore muscles and relieving that pain you might feel.

    Working out when you’re too high can be dangerous. You may not be as aware of your surroundings, or what’s happening to your body. Just be mindful of your doseable and more sure that it’s not more than you can handle. 
  • Don’t try anything that needs coordination or quick reaction times
    Cannabis can often slow down your reaction times or impair your coordination. Things like heavy lifting, swimming, or using complicated machines can be dangerous if you don’t have your reflexes at full capabilities.

 

Adding cannabis to your workout routine can be beneficial in so many ways. From motivating you to get started, to keeping you going, to assisting in recovery, it really has so many benefits and uses.

With the start of the New Year, many people chose to participate in “Dry January” where they abstain from alcohol for the entire month. People choose to take part in Dry January for a number of different reasons, some try it for health reasons, others as a reset after the holiday and some are just curious as to how it might work for them. 

Regardless of your reasons for going without alcohol this month, cannabis can give you a little boost and help you along.

Here are just a couple of the ways that cannabis can help you get over the line of Dry January.

1. Replaces the Ritual of Drinking

One of the things that can be difficult about stopping drinking is getting out of the routine that you were in. Whether it was a beer to unwind after work, a glass of wine with dinner, or a cocktail while out with friends, the ritual is just as much a part of your routine as the alcohol. 

Replacing that drink with your favorite way to consume will help you to keep up that ritual without having the drink itself. It can also help to replace the feeling that you get with alcohol allowing you to keep that routine as close as possible to have the least amount of disruption. 

2. Helps With Stress & Unwinding

Alcohol is something that people will often use to relax after a long and stressful day. Just because you’ve decided to stop drinking, doesn’t mean that the stress stops too. So when you find yourself needing a little something to help after a long day, don’t reach for a drink, grab your favorite strain.

In particular, products that contain CBD or have low-doses of THC are a good choice for this situation. They will help you to relax without making you feel too high or preventing you from getting anything done at the end of the day.

3. Reduces Alcohol Cravings for Some People

Some research and anecdotal evidence suggests that cannabis products can actually reduce the craving for alcohol in some people. This works for some for a couple of different reasons:

  • Less aggressive dopamine spike

Dry January is a great way to help you reset after the holidays and get your year started on the right foot, but it doesn’t need to be a hardship. You can make Dry January just a little bit easier by incorporating a little more cannabis into life.
